This week, Canadian forest products operators were put out of some of their uncertainty and found out preliminary trade actions on softwood lumber by the US.
Final determinations will be at the end of November 2017, for both countervailing (CVD) and anti-dumping (AD) duties.

NORTH AMERICA SOFTWOOD DIMENSION LUMBER MARKET 1Q 2017 WRAP-UP :
1) Canada and US lumber production is up 5-6% compared to last year
2) Canada lumber exports are up (although to China is down but to US is up)
3) US domestic lumber consumption is up compared to 2016 and continuing rise from 2015.

Benchmark dimension lumber commodity Western Spruce Pine Fir KD 2×4 #2&Btr up US$136 ( 31% ) to US$435 mfbm compared to one year ago’s US$299.
Eastern Spruce Pine Fir KD 2×4 #2&Btr up US$115 ( 19% ) to US$490 mfbm compared to one year ago’s US$395.
Southern Yellow Pine KD 2×4 #2&Btr up US$70 ( 18% ) to US$515 mfbm compared to one year ago’s US$420.
Douglas Fir green 2×4 #2&Btr up US$60 ( 15% ) to US$400 mfbm compared to one year ago’s US$340.
