The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported October 16 US and Canadian rail traffic volumes for the week ending October 16, 2021.
US railroads originated 1,970,839 combined carloads and intermodal units, up another +3.8%, or 71,419 combined, from one year ago.
US railroads originated 229,730 carloads and 267,253 intermodal units for the week ending October 16, 2021, up +1.2% and down -8.5% respectively from the same week last year.
Total combined US rail traffic for the first 41 weeks of 2021 once again showed big improvements over the previous year, at 20,825,372 carloads and intermodal units, up +8.3% compared to the same time last year.
Regarding North American rail volume for the first 41 weeks of 2021, Canadian railroads reported cumulative volume of 6,078,439 carloads, containers, and trailers, up +4.4% from the same week one year ago.
