RISI, owner of Crow’s Market Weekly, buys Random Lengths Softwood Lumber Publishing

It was quite surprising to Madison’s this week to learn that RISI has bought Random Lengths:

RISI already runs Crow’s Market Weekly:

Madison’s wonders how a single company is planning to put out two competing publications at the same time?

This, after RISI itself having it’s European offices raided for securities breach in February:

As always, Madison’s Lumber Reporter is the best, the most accurate, the most on-time source for all North American construction framing softwood lumber prices. Others might say it, but Madison’s IS truly independent. For over 60 years, since Peter Madison started in September 1952, to my former employer Laurence Cater. Laurie bought Madison’s in 1973.

Madison’s Lumber Reporter July 27, 2018

In 2003 I was hired. In 2008 Laurie retired and I took over.

Since the beginning Madison’s has been run by a single owner, gathering lumber market and price information from our sources: the North American forest products industry. We are truly independent and objective. Madison’s sources and customers know that, which goes a long way to be sure Madison’s is the most informed and the most on-target with weekly US and Canadian wholesale lumber price and panel prices.

Thanks!
