Softwood lumber exports by value from British Columbia are up 0.2 per cent for 2017 year- to-date October compared to the same period in 2016 ($11.64 billion vs. $11.62), said the Log Export and Economic Analysis Branch of the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations December 13. Lumber value is down -6 per cent, while volumes are down -14 per cent.
In terms of value by destination country, China is up 11 per cent as is Japan, up 7 per cent. So is value to Other countries up, by 10 per cent.
The value to the United States is down by -8 per cent, said the BC Ministry of Forests.

In total, BC lumber exports dropped -15 per cent to just under 19 million cubic metres, as of the end of September compared with one year ago, said the BC Ministry of Forests.For that month exports to China were down -6 per cent to 4.1 million cubic metres, but that is in view of a 10 per cent drop in exports to China in 2016 compared to the year before. Sales to Japan, at 15 million cubic metres, were down -2 per cent to the end of September.
