North America Softwood Lumber Production, Sawmill Capacity Utilization, WWPA: Full Year 2018


The latest issue of the Western Wood Products Association’s monthly Lumber Track, for full-year 2018, shows a +3.3% increase in US softwood lumber production volume, while that in Canada dropped by a similar ratio.
US softwood lumber production in 2018 ended strong compared to the previous year, jumping by +3.3%, totalling 34,873 million board feet (MMBF) compared to 33,775 MMBF in 2017.
Canadian sawmills, meanwhile, produced 27,436 million board feet (MMBF) of softwood lumber last year, -3.2% lower than the 28,334 MMBF in 2017.
In British Columbia lumber production continued it’s drastic reductions since 2017, falling by -5.5 per cent, to 15,196 million board feet in 2018 from 15, 384 MMBF in full year 2017.

North America Sawmill Production as Percent of Practical Capacity: Full-Year 2018

US sawmill production as per cent of practical capacity for full-year 2018 remained at 86 per cent, as it was in 2017, said the Western Wood Products Association’s monthly Lumber Track. Canadian sawmills production as per cent of practical capacity in 2018 was 87 per cent, down from 90 per cent the previous year.
