A worker was found pinned between a wood loader and a bundle of wood at the Rayonier Advanced Materials’ Chapleau, ON, facility, said Northern Ontario Business Monday. Two Ministry of Labour inspectors attended the scene.
The industrial plant employs 150 people in Chapleau.
“Rayonier Advanced Materials family suffered a tragic loss today at its Chapleau facility,” the company said in a statement Monday. “We learned with great sadness the passing of Mr. William Pye through an unfortunate accident at the site.”
The circumstances surrounding the accident were not revealed.
Sawmill Fatality
“The circumstances surrounding this accident are not yet fully known. We are currently cooperating with the Ontario Ministry of Labour in their investigation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to William’s family, friends and co-workers during this time of grief,” said the company release.
Florida-based Rayonier Advanced Materials acquired Montreal-based Tembec in a $1.1-billion million deal that closed last November.
The Chapleau sawmill produces random-sized softwood lumber and wood chips.
